Our Trip to the Tropics

I don't think I mentioned this on here before we left, but Seth met his quota for last year with the Knights of Columbus, which means they sent us on a trip to the Virgin Islands. Every year, all the agents who meet their quota are sent on a trip, which means we may get to do quite a bit of traveling in the future if Seth keeps up the good work! Then I won't have to resort to using tactics like this in the future:

We had a great time soaking up the sun and meeting some of the other families - there was a total of about 400-500 people there with the group, and they treated us well. We had a huge buffet every morning for breakfast and several dinners during the week with unimaginable amounts of food, drinks and live music. I think the staff at our resort was secretly happy to see us go :)

We brought Sam and left Elena with my parents. Elena had a great time with Grandma and Papi; half the time she was too busy to even talk with us when we called. Sam did extremely well through the entire trip. We were nervous about the long plane rides (about 8 hours on planes there and back), but he napped a little on each flight and kept himself entertained playing peek-a-boo with other passengers, reading books and playing pat-a-cake.

During the week, he was one of the most popular people at the resort. By the end of our stay, we would walk through the halls and people we didn't even know would stop and say "It's Sammy! Hi, Sam!!" Everywhere we went he would go up to as many people as he could to say "Hi." And he loved the dances - if he wasnt' tearing around the dance floor with other kids, he would pick and adult and hold up his arms to be picked up and danced with.

We spent a lot of time enjoying the sunny beach. The water was warm and the waves were big enough to be fun, but small enough to be pretty safe. Sam loved the sand and the water. Seth and I got a little sun-burned, of course. I shouldn't have brought the spray-on sunblock: it's much harder to put it on evenly when it's windy. We were a little splotchy.

Sam's first plane ride.

Sam, sleeping with this nice couple from Canada, who generously offered to babysit him one evening so we could go out alone. (Seth had been to training with Jeff last year) He had a great time!

Meeting Tom Smith (KC Vice President) and Supreme Knight Carl Anderson (basically the KC president) - For any KC this is a big deal!

Look closely and you'll see these rocks are covered with iguanas.

The hotel had towels just Sammy's size!

We're Back!

We just returned from the Virgin Islands. I'll write more later. Unpacking takes much more time when you have 2 little ones "helping."

I think Sam's going to need some brothers....

This is what happens when you let your 12-year-old niece watch your little boy: vfc
