It's that time of year again...

Elena has been getting lots of gardening practice with Papi again this year. She enjoys putting in the seeds and packing down the dirt. In a few years, she'll be a better gardener than I am. Oc course, that doesn't take much - which is ironic since my name means "harvester."
Here she is helping Papi in their garden.
And here is one of her playing with her friend Markelle.

The Latest Progenies

Once a month, we get together with 4 other couples and our priest for supper and some lively discussion. A year ago, 4 of the 5 women in the group had growing bellies - now we have 4 baby boys joining us at our meetings. Sam was born first, and Xavier, who joined us for the first time this week, was born 5 months to the day after Sam. 4 babies in 5 months: it doesn't get much more stereotypically Catholic than that!
Here they are (clockwise from top): Sam, Ian, Xavier and Toby.

happy cinco de mayo (a week late)

We went to a Cinco de Mayo concert at the Minneota high school last week. I brought along my niece, Brooke, to help out with the kids and a good time was had by all. I gotta say - I was quite impressed. They had yummy Mexican food, and the place was filled with Cinco de Mayo themed art-work.

About half-way through the concert, a group of junior high girls got a hold of Sam and I didn't have to worry about him the rest of the evening (although if this pattern keeps up, I'll have plenty to worry about in about 15 years). I would occasionally check in on him, overhearing lots of "I wanna hold him next!" and "You had him already!"s.

Elena had a blast listening to the music, dancing and walking up and down the bleacher steps. She often attempts to make new friends when she sees other children in public, and the concert was no exception. Unfortunately, given her 2-year-old socialization skills, she's not quite sure how to effectively start up a conversation with strange children. She usually resorts to bringing her face within about 2 inches of the other kid's and just smiles at them while they look increasingly uncomfortable. She reminds me of that kid in A Christmas Story who keeps trying to talk to Ralphie in line to see Santa. "I like the wizard of oz...."

A New Milestone

Elena finally has enough hair to wear pigtails - and she loves them! She insists on wearing them every day. Seth has already become a master pig-tailer. Here's a sample of his work.

Scot Fest 2009

Seth and Elena had a weekend away together last weekend, while Sam attended a wedding shower and his first (and hopefully last) bachelorette party with me. He wasn't the only kid there so it was pretty tame.

The other two went to a Scottish party with some friends up in the cities with music, dancing and even a caber toss which Seth was able to be a part of. Elena stayed up until 11:30 dancing away. Seth was up until after 3:00 am and was woken by Elena at 6:30 so he was pretty tired by the time they got home.

Here's Elena dancing with her friends Kirsten and Adrianna.
