It looks like Sam has inherited Seth's farm-boy work ethic. When he decides something needs to be done, he works single-mindedly on that task until it's done. At Seth's cousin's graduation Sam saw someone add some water bottles to the cooler. I guess he decided he'd better help out because he spent the next 10 minutes or so filling the cooler (only stopping to take out a drink and hand it to someone if they wanted one).
When he's not "working" Sam is mastering the art of being a boy. Every activity he does during the day, no matter how mundane, he manages to make extremely loud, unbelievably messy or extraordinarily dangerous. It's interesting to note that most of the people I know who make the claim that there's no fundamental difference between boys and girls have not raised a boy of their own. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but Sam is not one of those exceptions.
